Monthly Report on Implementation of Industrial Projects in Vietnam – August 2020

(HOUSELINK) – HOUSELINK’s Market Research team conducted Monthly Report to provide better insights about investment and implementation status of Industrial Projects in Vietnam.

The complication of Covid-19 pandemic causing the disruption in supply chain, combining with the epidemic rebound in some localities across the country from the end of July 2020, has affected the recovery of industrial production. The industrial production index in August 2020 fell 0.6% compared to the same period last year. In which, the mining industry had the worst effect (down 5.1%), due to the decreasing fuel demand in the recent months.

Based on the data of industrial projects with a total investment of more than US $2 million (equivalent to VND 46 billion) with foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic direct investment (DDI) on HOUSELINK platform, we have conducted data collecting, analyzed and formulated report on projects under construction in July 2020, as well as projects planning for construction (in the stage of planning, design, bidding) within 2020.

I. Covid-19 epidemic heavily affected Vietnam economy

Whilst the epidemic has been complicated worldwide, the outbreak in Da Nang at the end of July 2020 hindered Vietnam’s attempts on recovering and developing socio-economy in the new “normal” state.

 

II. The implementation status of Industrial Projects in August 2020

August 2020 witnessed the fall in the number and investment value of projects in the planning and design state, declining by 3% compared together with July 2020. In the meantime, the number of projects in bidding, under construction, finishing and completion are growing with the speed of 2 digits in comparison to the July 2020.

a.Industrial projects planning for construction by work types

Industrial projects planning for construction are mainly in form of new construction. However, there is a tendency that more and more investors are expanding production scale of their existing factories.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

b. Industrial projects planning for construction by locations

More and more manufacturers have been investing and developing industrial projects in the central region.

 

c. Industrial projects planning for construction by project types 

Energy, agriculture & feed, industrial infrastructure will be developed with a robust pace in the upcoming period.

d. Industrial projects planning for construction, by investment forms

Domestic direct investment (DDI) has the largest number of projects, investment value and gross floor area.

a. Industrial projects under construction by work types 

Industrial projects under construction is mainly in form of new construction. However, more and more projects are expanding their existing manufacturing acreage

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

b. Industrial projects under construction by locations

August 2020 saw a solid growth in the number of industrial projects under construction, especially in the Southeast region (Ba Ria Vung Tau, Dong Nai).

August 2020 witnessed a robust growth in the number of projects being constructed in food & beverage, agriculture & feed sectors, as well as in manufacturing and supplying electrical equipment.


d. Industrial projects under construction by investment forms

Chinese and Korean investors boost industrial construction works in Vietnam.
