Party lauds progress of PVN power, fertilizer projects
On July 28-29, 2020, two important signboard-setting ceremonies were held to welcome the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group’s (PVN) third Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term. The first ceremony marked the firing up of generating unit 1 of the Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant, energizing the 500kV distribution yard. The second marked the production of complex fertilizer from molten urea of the Petroleum Ca Mau Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (PVCFC).
These important milestones were attributed not only to the efforts of each unit and contractor, but also to the group’s political system and its determination to overcome the unprecedented economic and health crisis affecting Vietnam.
On July 10, 2020, at the construction site of Song Hau Thermal Power Plant Project 1, the Investor, PVN, and the General Contractor Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) attended the firing up of project’s generating unit 1.
The head of the Project Management Board Ho Xuan Hien said the successful firing up has great significance for the implementation of the project. “This is a landmark for the investor and general contractor to check the quality of the entire furnace equipment system, ensuring technical conditions to complete the test run and following important steps of the project,” Hien said.
The oil-fired burning process will last for three months, leading up to the coal-fired phase in November 2020, generating electricity and connecting to the national grid by the end of 2020 and early 2021 and putting into operation generating unit 1 and unit 2 by the second and third quarter of 2021, respectively.
The first fire-up of Unit 1 was approved by the Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue and environmental management agencies for its safety, affirming the quality of the project.
The second event highlighted by the Party Congress was the PVCFC project on producing complex fertilizer from molten urea. PVCFC General Director Van Tien Thanh said that the project is one of the decisive elements of PVCFC’s development strategy in the next five years. Once put into operation, the project will become a leading one-grain complex fertilizer factory with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes a year, total investment of more than VND800 billion, meeting diversified domestic demand, heading towards exports, and contributing to the economic development of the whole region. This is also Vietnam’s most modern complex fertilizer production project, the first to use equipment from the European Union and the G7 block, including the most advanced production line from ESPINDESA, Spain.
On behalf of PVN’s leaders, PVN Vice President Do Chi Thanh hailed the employees of the investor and contractor for overcoming countless difficulties, especially in the social distancing period due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to ensure the project’s on-time completion. “This is a key project marking the new development of PVCFC and it is even more exciting when it is completed at the third Party Congress of the group,” Thanh said.
Tran Sy Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee and chair of the Group’s Member Council praised the Song Hau 1 Thermal Power Plant employees. “The group acknowledges and highly appreciates the working spirit, efforts and high responsibilities of the project management board, general contractor, and contractors on the construction site amid many difficulties and challenges impacted by Covid-19 and fluctuations of the socioeconomic situation,” Thanh said in his message. “Progress of these two projects is a meaningful and practical gift to welcome the group’s third Party Congress with many good promises in the new term.”
